Introducing Tetrad B (cont)

As this terad covers both sides of the Tyne I had not appreciated that Tetrad B also includes Benwell Nature Park.  It is not clear to me whether it is open to the public or not in a way that it once was. Posters on the intimidating fence talk of the West Newcastle Academy and whilst one gate says ‘Visitors Welcome’ that may just be to the Academy.

The photo may show a tree museum or an oasis in a sea of houses.  It had a feel of one of the hunting valleys  in Italy where the countryside has been ravaged excepted for this preserved area.  I walked around the outside and the birdlife in the 5 acres is significant including a bullfinch calling.  Any kids at the academy have got a great opportunity to connect with wild things.
